ਸਲੋਕੁ ॥

Salok.

Shalok:

ਚਿਤਿ ਜਿ ਚਿਤਵਿਆ ਸੋ ਮੈ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

Chiṫ jė chiṫvi▫aa so mæ paa▫i▫aa.

Whatever I wish for, that I receive.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਸੁਖ ਸਬਾਇਆ ॥੪॥

Naanak naam ḋʰi▫aa▫é sukʰ sabaa▫i▫aa. ||4||

Meditating on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, Nanak has found total peace. ||4||

ਛੰਤੁ ॥

Chʰanṫ.

Chhant:

ਅਬ ਮਨੁ ਛੂਟਿ ਗਇਆ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲੇ ॥

Ab man chʰoot ga▫i▫aa saaḋʰoo sang milé.

My mind is now emancipated; I have joined the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਇਆ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਰਲੇ ॥

Gurmukʰ naam la▫i▫aa joṫee joṫ ralé.

As Gurmukh, I chant the Naam, and my light has merged into the Light.

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਮਿਟੇ ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਬੁਝੀ ਤਪਤਿ ਅਘਾਨਿਆ ॥

Har naam simraṫ mité kilbikʰ bujʰee ṫapaṫ agʰaani▫aa.

Remembering the Lord’s Name in meditation, my sins have been erased; the fire has been extinguished, and I am satisfied.

ਗਹਿ ਭੁਜਾ ਲੀਨੇ ਦਇਆ ਕੀਨੇ ਆਪਨੇ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨਿਆ ॥

Gėh bʰujaa leené ḋa▫i▫aa keené aapné kar maani▫aa.

He has taken me by the arm, and blessed me with His kind mercy; He has accepted me as His own.

ਲੈ ਅੰਕਿ ਲਾਏ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣਾ ਦੁਖ ਜਲੇ ॥

Læ ank laa▫é har milaa▫é janam marṇaa ḋukʰ jalé.

The Lord has hugged me in His embrace, and merged me with Himself; the pains of birth and death have been burnt away.

ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਇਆ ਧਾਰੀ ਮੇਲਿ ਲੀਨੇ ਇਕ ਪਲੇ ॥੪॥੨॥

Binvanṫ Naanak ḋa▫i▫aa ḋʰaaree mél leené ik palé. ||4||2||

Prays Nanak, He has blessed me with His kind mercy; in an instant, He unites me with Himself. ||4||2||

ਜੈਤਸਰੀ ਛੰਤ ਮਃ ੫ ॥

Jæṫsaree chʰanṫ mėhlaa 5.

Jaitsree, Chhant, Fifth Mehl:

ਪਾਧਾਣੂ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਗਾਰਬਿ ਅਟਿਆ ॥

Paaḋʰaaṇoo sansaar gaarab ati▫aa.

The world is like a temporary way-station, but it is filled with pride.

ਕਰਤੇ ਪਾਪ ਅਨੇਕ ਮਾਇਆ ਰੰਗ ਰਟਿਆ ॥

Karṫé paap anék maa▫i▫aa rang rati▫aa.

People commit countless sins; they are dyed in the color of the love of Maya.

ਲੋਭਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨਿ ਬੂਡੇ ਮਰਣੁ ਚੀਤਿ ਨ ਆਵਏ ॥

Lobʰ mohi abʰimaan boodé maraṇ cheeṫ na aav▫é.

In greed, emotional attachment and egotism, they are drowning; they do not even think of dying.

ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਬਿਉਹਾਰ ਬਨਿਤਾ ਏਹ ਕਰਤ ਬਿਹਾਵਏ ॥

Puṫar miṫar bi▫uhaar baniṫaa éh karaṫ bihaava▫é.

Children, friends, worldly occupations and spouses - they talk of these things, while their lives are passing away.

ਪੁਜਿ ਦਿਵਸ ਆਏ ਲਿਖੇ ਮਾਏ ਦੁਖੁ ਧਰਮ ਦੂਤਹ ਡਿਠਿਆ ॥

Puj ḋivas aa▫é likʰé maa▫é ḋukʰ ḋʰaram ḋooṫah ditʰi▫aa.

When their preordained days have run their course, O mother, they behold the Messengers of the Righteous Judge of Dharma, and they suffer.

ਕਿਰਤ ਕਰਮ ਨ ਮਿਟੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਧਨੁ ਨਹੀ ਖਟਿਆ ॥੧॥

Kiraṫ karam na mitæ Naanak har naam ḋʰan nahee kʰati▫aa. ||1||

The karma of their past deeds cannot be erased, O Nanak! If they have not earned the wealth of the Lord’s Name. ||1||

ਉਦਮ ਕਰਹਿ ਅਨੇਕ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਗਾਵਹੀ ॥

Uḋam karahi anék har naam na gaavhee.

He makes all sorts of efforts, but he does not sing the Lord’s Name.

ਭਰਮਹਿ ਜੋਨਿ ਅਸੰਖ ਮਰਿ ਜਨਮਹਿ ਆਵਹੀ ॥

Bʰarmėh jon asaⁿkʰ mar janmėh aavhee.

He wanders around in countless incarnations; he dies, only to be born again.

ਪਸੂ ਪੰਖੀ ਸੈਲ ਤਰਵਰ ਗਣਤ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਆਵਏ ॥

Pasoo pankʰee sæl ṫarvar gaṇaṫ kachʰoo na aav▫é.

As beasts, birds, stones and trees - their number cannot be known.

ਬੀਜੁ ਬੋਵਸਿ ਭੋਗ ਭੋਗਹਿ ਕੀਆ ਅਪਣਾ ਪਾਵਏ ॥

Beej bovas bʰog bʰogėh kee▫aa apṇaa paav▫é.

As are the seeds he plants, so are the pleasures he enjoys; he receives the consequences of his own actions.

ਰਤਨ ਜਨਮੁ ਹਾਰੰਤ ਜੂਐ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਿ ਨ ਭਾਵਹੀ ॥

Raṫan janam haranṫ joo▫æ parabʰoo aap na bʰaavhee.

He loses the jewel of this human life in the gamble, and God is not pleased with him at all.

ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਰਮਹਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਾਏ ਖਿਨੁ ਏਕੁ ਟਿਕਣੁ ਨ ਪਾਵਹੀ ॥੨॥

Binvanṫ Naanak bʰarmėh bʰarmaa▫é kʰin ék tikaṇ na paavhee. ||2||

Prays Nanak, wandering in doubt, he does not find any rest, even for an instant. ||2||

ਜੋਬਨੁ ਗਇਆ ਬਿਤੀਤਿ ਜਰੁ ਮਲਿ ਬੈਠੀਆ ॥

Joban ga▫i▫aa biṫeeṫ jar mal bætʰee▫aa.

Youth has passed, and old age has taken its place.

ਕਰ ਕੰਪਹਿ ਸਿਰੁ ਡੋਲ ਨੈਣ ਨ ਡੀਠਿਆ ॥

Kar kampėh sir dol næṇ na deetʰi▫aa.

The hands tremble, the head shakes, and the eyes do not see.

ਨਹ ਨੈਣ ਦੀਸੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਭਜਨ ਈਸੈ ਛੋਡਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਚਾਲਿਆ ॥

Nah næṇ ḋeesæ bin bʰajan eesæ chʰod maa▫i▫aa chaali▫aa.

The eyes do not see, without vibrating and meditating on the Lord; he must leave behind the attractions of Maya, and depart.

ਕਹਿਆ ਨ ਮਾਨਹਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਖਾਕੁ ਛਾਨਹਿ ਜਿਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਜਾਲਿਆ ॥

Kahi▫aa na maanėh sir kʰaak chʰaanėh jin sang man ṫan jaali▫aa.

He burnt his mind and body for his relatives, but now, they do not listen to him, and they throw dust on his head.

ਸ੍ਰੀਰਾਮ ਰੰਗ ਅਪਾਰ ਪੂਰਨ ਨਹ ਨਿਮਖ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਵੂਠਿਆ ॥

Sareeraam rang apaar pooran nah nimakʰ man mėh vootʰi▫aa.

Love for the infinite, Perfect Lord does not abide in his mind, even for an instant.

ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੋਟਿ ਕਾਗਰ ਬਿਨਸ ਬਾਰ ਨ ਝੂਠਿਆ ॥੩॥

Binvanṫ Naanak kot kaagar binas baar na jʰootʰi▫aa. ||3||

Prays Nanak, the fort of paper is false - it is destroyed in an instant. ||3||

ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਸਰਣਾਇ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਆਇਆ ॥

Charan kamal sarṇaa▫é Naanak aa▫i▫aa.

Nanak has come to the Sanctuary of the Lord’s lotus feet.

ਦੁਤਰੁ ਭੈ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਆਪਿ ਤਰਾਇਆ ॥

Ḋuṫar bʰæ sansaar parabʰ aap ṫaraa▫i▫aa.

God Himself has carried Him across the impassable, terrifying world-ocean.

ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧਸੰਗੇ ਭਜੇ ਸ੍ਰੀਧਰ ਕਰਿ ਅੰਗੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੀ ਤਾਰਿਆ ॥

Mil saaḋʰsangé bʰajé sareeḋʰar kar ang parabʰ jee ṫaari▫aa.

Joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, I vibrate and meditate on the Lord; God has made me His own, and saved me.

ਹਰਿ ਮਾਨਿ ਲੀਏ ਨਾਮ ਦੀਏ ਅਵਰੁ ਕਛੁ ਨ ਬੀਚਾਰਿਆ ॥

Har maan lee▫é naam ḋee▫é avar kachʰ na beechaari▫aa.

The Lord has approved of me, and blessed me with His Name; He did not take anything else into consideration.

ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਅਪਾਰ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਮਨਿ ਲੋੜੀਦਾ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

Guṇ niḋʰaan apaar tʰaakur man loṛeeḋaa paa▫i▫aa.

I have found the infinite Lord and Master, the treasure of virtue, which my mind had yearned for.

ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਦਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਖਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੨॥੩॥

Binvanṫ Naanak saḋaa ṫaripṫæ har naam bʰojan kʰaa▫i▫aa. ||4||2||3||

Prays Nanak, I am satisfied forever; I have eaten the food of the Lord’s Name. ||4||2||3||

ਜੈਤਸਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ਵਾਰ ਸਲੋਕਾ ਨਾਲਿ

Jæṫsaree mėhlaa 5 vaar salokaa naaial

Jaitsree, Fifth Mehl, Vaar With Shaloks:

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

Ik▫oaⁿkaar saṫgur parsaaḋ.

Salok.

Shalok:

ਆਦਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਮਧਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਅੰਤਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰਹ ॥

Aaḋ pooran maḋʰ pooran anṫ pooran parmésurėh.

In the beginning, He was pervading; in the middle, He is pervading; in the end, He will be pervading. He is the Transcendent Lord.

ਸਿਮਰੰਤਿ ਸੰਤ ਸਰਬਤ੍ਰ ਰਮਣੰ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਘਨਾਸਨ ਜਗਦੀਸੁਰਹ ॥੧॥

Simranṫ sanṫ sarbaṫar ramṇaⁿ Naanak agʰnaasan jagḋeesurėh. ||1||

The Saints remember in meditation the all-pervading Lord God. O Nanak! He is the Destroyer of sins, the Lord of the universe. ||1||
