ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਇ ਸੁ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਮਾਨੈ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਸਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੯॥

Gurmukʰ ho▫é so hukam pachʰaaṇæ maanæ hukam samaa▫iḋaa. ||9||

One who becomes Gurmukh realizes the Hukam of His command; surrendering to His Command, one merges into the Lord. ||9||

ਹੁਕਮੇ ਆਇਆ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥

Hukmé aa▫i▫aa hukam samaa▫i▫aa.

By His Command we come, and by His command we merge into Him again.

ਹੁਕਮੇ ਦੀਸੈ ਜਗਤੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥

Hukmé ḋeesæ jagaṫ upaa▫i▫aa.

By His Command, the world was formed.

ਹੁਕਮੇ ਸੁਰਗੁ ਮਛੁ ਪਇਆਲਾ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਕਲਾ ਰਹਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੦॥

Hukmé surag machʰ pa▫i▫aalaa hukmé kalaa rahaa▫iḋaa. ||10||

By His Command, the heavens, this world and the nether regions were created; by His Command, His Power supports them. ||10||

ਹੁਕਮੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਧਉਲ ਸਿਰਿ ਭਾਰੰ ॥

Hukmé ḋʰarṫee ḋʰa▫ul sir bʰaaraⁿ.

The Hukam of His Command is the mythical bull which supports the burden of the earth on its head.

ਹੁਕਮੇ ਪਉਣ ਪਾਣੀ ਗੈਣਾਰੰ ॥

Hukmé pa▫uṇ paaṇee gæṇaaraⁿ.

By His Hukam, air, water and fire came into being.

ਹੁਕਮੇ ਸਿਵ ਸਕਤੀ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਖੇਲ ਖੇਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੧॥

Hukmé siv sakṫee gʰar vaasaa hukmé kʰél kʰélaa▫iḋaa. ||11||

By His Hukam, one dwells in the house of matter and energy - Shiva and Shakti. By His Hukam, He plays His plays. ||11||

ਹੁਕਮੇ ਆਡਾਣੇ ਆਗਾਸੀ ॥

Hukmé aadaaṇé aagaasee.

By the Hukam of His command, the sky is spread above.

ਹੁਕਮੇ ਜਲ ਥਲ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਵਾਸੀ ॥

Hukmé jal ṫʰal ṫaribʰavaṇ vaasee.

By His Hukam, His creatures dwell in the water, on the land and throughout the three worlds.

ਹੁਕਮੇ ਸਾਸ ਗਿਰਾਸ ਸਦਾ ਫੁਨਿ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਦੇਖਿ ਦਿਖਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੨॥

Hukmé saas giraas saḋaa fun hukmé ḋékʰ ḋikʰaa▫iḋaa. ||12||

By His Hukam, we draw our breath and receive our food; by His Hukam, He watches over us, and inspires us to see. ||12||

ਹੁਕਮਿ ਉਪਾਏ ਦਸ ਅਉਤਾਰਾ ॥

Hukam upaa▫é ḋas a▫uṫaaraa.

By His Hukam, He created His ten incarnations,

ਦੇਵ ਦਾਨਵ ਅਗਣਤ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥

Ḋév ḋaanav agṇaṫ apaaraa.

and the uncounted and infinite gods and devils.

ਮਾਨੈ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਸੁ ਦਰਗਹ ਪੈਝੈ ਸਾਚਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ਸਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੩॥

Maanæ hukam so ḋargėh pæjʰæ saach milaa▫é samaa▫iḋaa. ||13||

Whoever obeys the Hukam of His Command, is robed with honor in the Court of the Lord; united with the Truth, He merges into the Lord. ||13||

ਹੁਕਮੇ ਜੁਗ ਛਤੀਹ ਗੁਦਾਰੇ ॥

Hukmé jug chʰaṫeeh guḋaaré.

By the Hukam of His Command, the thirty-six ages passed.

ਹੁਕਮੇ ਸਿਧ ਸਾਧਿਕ ਵੀਚਾਰੇ ॥

Hukmé siḋʰ saaḋʰik veechaaré.

By His Hukam, the Siddhas and seekers contemplate Him.

ਆਪਿ ਨਾਥੁ ਨਥੀ ਸਭ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਬਖਸੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕਰਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੪॥

Aap naaṫʰ naṫʰeeⁿ sabʰ jaa kee bakʰsé mukaṫ karaa▫iḋaa. ||14||

The Lord Himself has brought all under His control. Whoever He forgives, is liberated. ||14||

ਕਾਇਆ ਕੋਟੁ ਗੜੈ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਜਾ ॥

Kaa▫i▫aa kot gaṛæ mėh raajaa.

There is king in the strong fortress of the body,

ਨੇਬ ਖਵਾਸ ਭਲਾ ਦਰਵਾਜਾ ॥

Néb kʰavaas bʰalaa ḋarvaajaa.

with its beautiful doors and special assistants and ministers.

ਮਿਥਿਆ ਲੋਭੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ ਲਬਿ ਪਾਪਿ ਪਛੁਤਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੫॥

Miṫʰi▫aa lobʰ naahee gʰar vaasaa lab paap pachʰuṫaa▫iḋaa. ||15||

Those gripped by falsehood and greed do not dwell in the celestial home; engrossed in greed and sin, they come to regret and repent. ||15||

ਸਤੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਨਗਰ ਮਹਿ ਕਾਰੀ ॥

Saṫ sanṫokʰ nagar mėh kaaree.

Truth and contentment govern this body-village.

ਜਤੁ ਸਤੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਸਰਣਿ ਮੁਰਾਰੀ ॥

Jaṫ saṫ sanjam saraṇ muraaree.

Chastity, truth and self-control are in the Sanctuary of the Lord.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਹਜਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੬॥੪॥੧੬॥

Naanak sahj milæ jagjeevan gur sabḋee paṫ paa▫iḋaa. ||16||4||16||

O Nanak! One intuitively meets the Lord, the Life of the World; the Word of the Guru’s Shabad brings honor. ||16||4||16||

ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥

Maaroo mėhlaa 1.

Maaroo, First Mehl:

ਸੁੰਨ ਕਲਾ ਅਪਰੰਪਰਿ ਧਾਰੀ ॥

Sunn kalaa aprampar ḋʰaaree.

In the Primal Void, the Infinite Lord assumed His Power.

ਆਪਿ ਨਿਰਾਲਮੁ ਅਪਰ ਅਪਾਰੀ ॥

Aap niraalam apar apaaree.

He Himself is unattached, infinite and incomparable.

ਆਪੇ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖੈ ਸੁੰਨਹੁ ਸੁੰਨੁ ਉਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧॥

Aapé kuḋraṫ kar kar ḋékʰæ sunnahu sunn upaa▫iḋaa. ||1||

He Himself exercised His Creative Power, and He gazes upon His creation; from the Primal Void, He formed the Void. ||1||

ਪਉਣੁ ਪਾਣੀ ਸੁੰਨੈ ਤੇ ਸਾਜੇ ॥

Pa▫uṇ paaṇee sunnæ ṫé saajé.

From this Primal Void, He fashioned air and water.

ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਉਪਾਇ ਕਾਇਆ ਗੜ ਰਾਜੇ ॥

Sarisat upaa▫é kaa▫i▫aa gaṛ raajé.

He created the universe, and the king in the fortress of the body.

ਅਗਨਿ ਪਾਣੀ ਜੀਉ ਜੋਤਿ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ਸੁੰਨੇ ਕਲਾ ਰਹਾਇਦਾ ॥੨॥

Agan paaṇee jee▫o joṫ ṫumaaree sunné kalaa rahaa▫iḋaa. ||2||

Your Light pervades fire, water and souls; Your Power rests in the Primal Void. ||2||

ਸੁੰਨਹੁ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਮਹੇਸੁ ਉਪਾਏ ॥

Sunnahu barahmaa bisan mahés upaa▫é.

From this Primal Void, Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva issued forth.

ਸੁੰਨੇ ਵਰਤੇ ਜੁਗ ਸਬਾਏ ॥

Sunné varṫé jug sabaa▫é.

This Primal Void is pervasive throughout all the ages.

ਇਸੁ ਪਦ ਵੀਚਾਰੇ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਦਾ ॥੩॥

Is paḋ veechaaré so jan pooraa ṫis milee▫æ bʰaram chukaa▫iḋaa. ||3||

That humble being who contemplates this state is perfect; meeting with him, doubt is dispelled. ||3||

ਸੁੰਨਹੁ ਸਪਤ ਸਰੋਵਰ ਥਾਪੇ ॥

Sunnahu sapaṫ sarovar ṫʰaapé.

From this Primal Void, the seven seas were established.

ਜਿਨਿ ਸਾਜੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੇ ਆਪੇ ॥

Jin saajé veechaaré aapé.

The One who created them, Himself contemplates them.

ਤਿਤੁ ਸਤ ਸਰਿ ਮਨੂਆ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਵੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਬਾਹੁੜਿ ਜੋਨਿ ਨ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੪॥

Ṫiṫ saṫ sar manoo▫aa gurmukʰ naavæ fir baahuṛ jon na paa▫iḋaa. ||4||

That human being who becomes Gurmukh, who bathes in the pool of Truth, is not cast into the womb of reincarnation again. ||4||

ਸੁੰਨਹੁ ਚੰਦੁ ਸੂਰਜੁ ਗੈਣਾਰੇ ॥

Sunnahu chanḋ sooraj gæṇaaré.

From this Primal Void, came the moon, the sun and the earth.

ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਸਾਰੇ ॥

Ṫis kee joṫ ṫaribʰavaṇ saaré.

His Light pervades all the three worlds.

ਸੁੰਨੇ ਅਲਖ ਅਪਾਰ ਨਿਰਾਲਮੁ ਸੁੰਨੇ ਤਾੜੀ ਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੫॥

Sunné alakʰ apaar niraalam sunné ṫaaṛee laa▫iḋaa. ||5||

The Lord of this Primal Void is unseen, infinite and immaculate; He is absorbed in the Primal Trance of Deep Meditation. ||5||

ਸੁੰਨਹੁ ਧਰਤਿ ਅਕਾਸੁ ਉਪਾਏ ॥

Sunnahu ḋʰaraṫ akaas upaa▫é.

From this Primal Void, the earth and the Akashic Ethers were created.

ਬਿਨੁ ਥੰਮਾ ਰਾਖੇ ਸਚੁ ਕਲ ਪਾਏ ॥

Bin ṫʰammaa raakʰé sach kal paa▫é.

He supports them without any visible support, by exercising His True Power.

ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਸਾਜਿ ਮੇਖੁਲੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਆਪਿ ਉਪਾਇ ਖਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੬॥

Ṫaribʰavaṇ saaj mékʰulee maa▫i▫aa aap upaa▫é kʰapaa▫iḋaa. ||6||

He fashioned the three worlds, and the rope of Maya; He Himself creates and destroys. ||6||

ਸੁੰਨਹੁ ਖਾਣੀ ਸੁੰਨਹੁ ਬਾਣੀ ॥

Sunnahu kʰaaṇee sunnahu baṇee.

From this Primal Void, came the four sources of creation, and the power of speech.

ਸੁੰਨਹੁ ਉਪਜੀ ਸੁੰਨਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥

Sunnahu upjee sunn samaaṇee.

They were created from the Void, and they will merge into the Void.

ਉਤਭੁਜੁ ਚਲਤੁ ਕੀਆ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਰਤੈ ਬਿਸਮਾਦੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਦੇਖਾਇਦਾ ॥੭॥

Uṫ▫bʰuj chalaṫ kee▫aa sir karṫæ bismaaḋ sabaḋ ḋékʰaa▫iḋaa. ||7||

The Supreme Creator created the play of Nature; through the Word of His Shabad, He stages His Wondrous Show. ||7||

ਸੁੰਨਹੁ ਰਾਤਿ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਦੁਇ ਕੀਏ ॥

Sunnahu raaṫ ḋinas ḋu▫é kee▫é.

From this Primal Void, He made both night and day;

ਓਪਤਿ ਖਪਤਿ ਸੁਖਾ ਦੁਖ ਦੀਏ ॥

Opaṫ kʰapaṫ sukʰaa ḋukʰ ḋee▫é.

creation and destruction, pleasure and pain.

ਸੁਖ ਦੁਖ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਅਮਰੁ ਅਤੀਤਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਿਜ ਘਰੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੮॥

Sukʰ ḋukʰ hee ṫé amar aṫeeṫaa gurmukʰ nij gʰar paa▫iḋaa. ||8||

The Gurmukh is immortal, untouched by pleasure and pain. He obtains the home of his own inner being. ||8||
