231 ਤਤੁ ਨ ਚੀਨਹਿ ਬੰਨਹਿ ਪੰਡ ਪਰਾਲਾ ॥੨॥ Ṫaṫ na cheenėh banėh pand paraalaa. ||2|| They do not understand the essence of reality, and they gather their worthless bundles of straw. ||2|| ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅਗਿਆਨਿ ਕੁਮਾਰਗਿ ਪਾਏ ॥ Manmukʰ agi▫aan kumaarag paa▫é. The self-willed Manmukhs, in ignorance, take the path of evil. ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਬਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਬਹੁ ਕਰਮ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ॥ Har naam bisaari▫aa baho karam driṛ▫aa▫é. They forget the Lord’s Name, and in its place, they establish all sorts of rituals. ਭਵਜਲਿ ਡੂਬੇ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਏ ॥੩॥ Bʰavjal doobé ḋoojæ bʰaa▫é. ||3|| They drown in the terrifying world-ocean, in the love of duality. ||3|| ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾ ਮੁਹਤਾਜੁ ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਕਹਾਵੈ ॥ Maa▫i▫aa kaa muhṫaaj pandiṫ kahaavæ. Driven crazy, infatuated by Maya, they call themselves Pandits - religious scholars; ਬਿਖਿਆ ਰਾਤਾ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥ Bikʰi▫aa raaṫaa bahuṫ ḋukʰ paavæ. stained with corruption, they suffer terrible pain. ਜਮ ਕਾ ਗਲਿ ਜੇਵੜਾ ਨਿਤ ਕਾਲੁ ਸੰਤਾਵੈ ॥੪॥ Jam kaa gal jévṛaa niṫ kaal sanṫaavæ. ||4|| The noose of the Messenger of Death is around their necks; they are constantly tormented by death. ||4|| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਨੇੜਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥ Gurmukʰ jamkaal néṛ na aavæ. The Messenger of Death does not even approach the Gurmukhs. ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਜਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਵੈ ॥ Ha▫umæ ḋoojaa sabaḋ jalaavæ. Through the Word of the Shabad, they burn away their ego and duality. ਨਾਮੇ ਰਾਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ॥੫॥ Naamé raaṫé har guṇ gaavæ. ||5|| Attuned to the Name, they sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||5|| ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾਸੀ ਭਗਤਾ ਕੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥ Maa▫i▫aa ḋaasee bʰagṫaa kee kaar kamaavæ. Maya is the slave of the Lord’s devotees; it works for them. ਚਰਣੀ ਲਾਗੈ ਤਾ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥ Charṇee laagæ ṫaa mahal paavæ. One who falls at their feet attains the Mansion of the Lord’s Presence. ਸਦ ਹੀ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥੬॥ Saḋ hee nirmal sahj samaavæ. ||6|| He is forever immaculate; he is absorbed in intuitive peace. ||6|| ਹਰਿ ਕਥਾ ਸੁਣਹਿ ਸੇ ਧਨਵੰਤ ਦਿਸਹਿ ਜੁਗ ਮਾਹੀ ॥ Har kaṫʰaa suṇėh sé ḋʰanvanṫ ḋisėh jug maahee. Those who listen to the Lord’s Sermon are seen to be the wealthy people in this world. ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਸਭਿ ਨਿਵਹਿ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਪੂਜ ਕਰਾਹੀ ॥ Ṫin ka▫o sabʰ nivėh an▫ḋin pooj karaahee. Everyone bows down to them, and adores them, night and day. ਸਹਜੇ ਗੁਣ ਰਵਹਿ ਸਾਚੇ ਮਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥੭॥ Sėhjé guṇ ravėh saaché man maahee. ||7|| They intuitively savor the Glories of the True Lord within their minds. ||7|| ਪੂਰੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣਾਇਆ ॥ Pooræ saṫgur sabaḋ suṇaa▫i▫aa. The Perfect True Guru has revealed the Shabad; ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਮੇਟੇ ਚਉਥੈ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥ Ṫaræ guṇ mété cha▫uṫʰæ chiṫ laa▫i▫aa. it eradicates the three qualities, and attunes the consciousness to the fourth state. ਨਾਨਕ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥੮॥੪॥ Naanak ha▫umæ maar barahm milaa▫i▫aa. ||8||4|| O Nanak! Subduing egotism, one is absorbed into God. ||8||4|| ਗਉੜੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥ Ga▫oṛee mėhlaa 3. Gauree, Third Mehl: ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਵੇਦੁ ਪੜੈ ਵਾਦੁ ਵਖਾਣੈ ॥ Barahmaa véḋ paṛæ vaaḋ vakʰaaṇæ. Brahma studied the Vedas, but these lead only to debates and disputes. ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤਾਮਸੁ ਆਪੁ ਨ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥ Anṫar ṫaamas aap na pachʰaaṇæ. He is filled with darkness; he does not understand himself. ਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਾਏ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਵਖਾਣੈ ॥੧॥ Ṫaa parabʰ paa▫é gur sabaḋ vakʰaaṇæ. ||1|| And yet, if he chants the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, he finds God. ||1|| ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਉ ਫਿਰਿ ਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਖਾਇ ॥ Gur sévaa kara▫o fir kaal na kʰaa▫é. So, serve the Guru, and you shall not be consumed by death. ਮਨਮੁਖ ਖਾਧੇ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ Manmukʰ kʰaaḋʰé ḋoojæ bʰaa▫é. ||1|| rahaa▫o. The self-willed Manmukhs have been consumed by the love of duality. ||1||Pause|| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਅਪਰਾਧੀ ਸੀਧੇ ॥ Gurmukʰ paraaṇee apraaḋʰee seeḋʰé. Becoming Gurmukh, the sinful mortals are purified. ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਰੀਧੇ ॥ Gur kæ sabaḋ anṫar sahj reeḋʰé. Through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, they find intuitive peace and poise deep within. ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੀਧੇ ॥੨॥ Méraa parabʰ paa▫i▫aa gur kæ sabaḋ seeḋʰé. ||2|| I have found my God, through the Guru’s Shabad, and I have been reformed. ||2|| ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮੇਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥ Saṫgur mélé parabʰ aap milaa▫é. God Himself unites us in Union with the True Guru, ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਾਚੇ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਏ ॥ Méré parabʰ saaché kæ man bʰaa▫é. when we become pleasing to the Mind of my True God. ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਏ ॥੩॥ Har guṇ gaavahi sahj subʰaa▫é. ||3|| They sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, in the poise of celestial peace. ||3|| ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਾਚੇ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਏ ॥ Bin gur saaché bʰaram bʰulaa▫é. Without the True Guru, they are deluded by doubt. ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅੰਧੇ ਸਦਾ ਬਿਖੁ ਖਾਏ ॥ Manmukʰ anḋʰé saḋaa bikʰ kʰaa▫é. The blind, self-willed Manmukhs constantly eat poison. ਜਮ ਡੰਡੁ ਸਹਹਿ ਸਦਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥੪॥ Jam dand sahėh saḋaa ḋukʰ paa▫é. ||4|| They are beaten by the Messenger of Death with his rod, and they suffer in constant pain. ||4|| ਜਮੂਆ ਨ ਜੋਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥ Jamoo▫aa na johæ har kee sarṇaa▫ee. The Messenger of Death does not catch sight of those who enter the Sanctuary of the Lord. ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਸਚਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥ Ha▫umæ maar sach liv laa▫ee. Subduing egotism, they lovingly center their consciousness on the True Lord. ਸਦਾ ਰਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥੫॥ Saḋaa rahæ har naam liv laa▫ee. ||5|| They keep their consciousness constantly focused on the Lord’s Name. ||5|| ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਪਵਿਤਾ ॥ Saṫgur sévėh sé jan nirmal paviṫaa. Those humble beings who serve the True Guru are pure and immaculate. ਮਨ ਸਿਉ ਮਨੁ ਮਿਲਾਇ ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਜੀਤਾ ॥ Man si▫o man milaa▫é sabʰ jag jeeṫaa. Merging their minds into the Mind, they conquer the entire world. ਇਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਕੁਸਲੁ ਤੇਰੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਮੀਤਾ ॥੬॥ In biḋʰ kusal ṫéræ méré meeṫaa. ||6|| In this way, you too shall find happiness, O my friend. ||6|| ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਸੇਵੇ ਸੋ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਏ ॥ Saṫguroo sévé so fal paa▫é. Those who serve the True Guru are blessed with fruitful rewards. ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥ Hirḋæ naam vichahu aap gavaa▫é. The Naam, the Name of the Lord, abides in their hearts; selfishness and conceit depart from within them. ਅਨਹਦ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਵਜਾਏ ॥੭॥ Anhaḋ baṇee sabaḋ vajaa▫é. ||7|| The unstruck melody of the Shabad vibrates for them. ||7|| ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਕਵਨੁ ਕਵਨੁ ਨ ਸੀਧੋ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Saṫgur ṫé kavan kavan na seeḋʰo méré bʰaa▫ee. Who - who has not been purified by the True Guru, O my Siblings of Destiny? ਭਗਤੀ ਸੀਧੇ ਦਰਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਈ ॥ Bʰagṫee seeḋʰé ḋar sobʰaa paa▫ee. The devotees are purified, and honored in His Court. ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੮॥੫॥ Naanak raam naam vadi▫aa▫ee. ||8||5|| O Nanak! Greatness is in the Lord’s Name. ||8||5|| ਗਉੜੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥ Ga▫oṛee mėhlaa 3. Gauree, Third Mehl: ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਵਖਾਣੈ ਭਰਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥ Ṫaræ guṇ vakʰaaṇæ bʰaram na jaa▫é. Those who speak of the three qualities - their doubts do not depart. ਬੰਧਨ ਨ ਤੂਟਹਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥ Banḋʰan na ṫootėh mukaṫ na paa▫é. Their bonds are not broken, and they do not obtain liberation. ਮੁਕਤਿ ਦਾਤਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਜੁਗ ਮਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ Mukaṫ ḋaaṫaa saṫgur jug maahi. ||1|| The True Guru is the Bestower of liberation in this age. ||1|| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਭਰਮੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥ Gurmukʰ paraaṇee bʰaram gavaa▫é. Those mortals who become Gurmukh give up their doubts. ਸਹਜ ਧੁਨਿ ਉਪਜੈ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ Sahj ḋʰun upjæ har liv laa▫é. ||1|| rahaa▫o. The celestial music wells up, when they lovingly attune their consciousness to the Lord. ||1||Pause|| ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਕਾਲੈ ਕੀ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਾਰਾ ॥ Ṫaræ guṇ kaalæ kee sir kaaraa. Those who are controlled by the three qualities have death hovering over their heads. |
