ਭਰਮ ਮੋਹ ਕਛੁ ਸੂਝਸਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਇਹ ਪੈਖਰ ਪਏ ਪੈਰਾ ॥੨॥

Bʰaram moh kachʰ soojʰas naahee ih pækʰar pa▫é pæraa. ||2||

In doubt and emotional attachment, this person understands nothing; with this leash, these feet are tied up. ||2||

ਤਬ ਇਹੁ ਕਹਾ ਕਮਾਵਨ ਪਰਿਆ ਜਬ ਇਹੁ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਹੋਤਾ ॥

Ṫab ih kahaa kamaavan pari▫aa jab ih kachʰoo na hoṫaa.

What did this person do, when he did not exist?

ਜਬ ਏਕ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਆਪਹਿ ਕਰਤਾ ॥੩॥

Jab ék niranjan nirankaar parabʰ sabʰ kichʰ aapėh karṫaa. ||3||

When the Immaculate and Formless Lord God was all alone, He did everything by Himself. ||3||

ਅਪਨੇ ਕਰਤਬ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਨੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਇਹੁ ਰਚਨੁ ਰਚਾਇਆ ॥

Apné karṫab aapé jaanæ jin ih rachan rachaa▫i▫aa.

He alone knows His actions; He created this creation.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰਣਹਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਆਪੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੫॥੧੬੩॥

Kaho Naanak karanhaar hæ aapé saṫgur bʰaram chukaa▫i▫aa. ||4||5||163||

Says Nanak, the Lord Himself is the Doer. The True Guru has dispelled my doubts. ||4||5||163||

ਗਉੜੀ ਮਾਲਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Ga▫oṛee maalaa mėhlaa 5.

Gauree Maalaa, Fifth Mehl:

ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰ ਕ੍ਰਿਆ ਬਿਰਥੇ ॥

Har bin avar kir▫aa birṫʰé.

Without the Lord, other actions are useless.

ਜਪ ਤਪ ਸੰਜਮ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਣੇ ਇਹਿ ਓਰੈ ਮੂਸੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Jap ṫap sanjam karam kamaaṇé ihi oræ moosé. ||1|| rahaa▫o.

Meditative chants, intense deep meditation, austere self-discipline and rituals - these are plundered in this world. ||1||Pause||

ਬਰਤ ਨੇਮ ਸੰਜਮ ਮਹਿ ਰਹਤਾ ਤਿਨ ਕਾ ਆਢੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

Baraṫ ném sanjam mėh rahṫaa ṫin kaa aadʰ na paa▫i▫aa.

Fasting, daily rituals, and austere self-discipline - those who keep the practice of these, are rewarded with less than a shell.

ਆਗੈ ਚਲਣੁ ਅਉਰੁ ਹੈ ਭਾਈ ਊਂਹਾ ਕਾਮਿ ਨ ਆਇਆ ॥੧॥

Aagæ chalaṇ a▫or hæ bʰaa▫ee ooⁿhaa kaam na aa▫i▫aa. ||1||

Hereafter, the way is different, O Siblings of Destiny. There, these things are of no use at all. ||1||

ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨਾਇ ਅਰੁ ਧਰਨੀ ਭ੍ਰਮਤਾ ਆਗੈ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ॥

Ṫiraṫʰ naa▫é ar ḋʰarnee bʰarmaṫaa aagæ tʰa▫ur na paavæ.

Those who bathe at sacred shrines of pilgrimage, and wander over the earth, find no place of rest hereafter.

ਊਹਾ ਕਾਮਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਓਹੁ ਲੋਗਨ ਹੀ ਪਤੀਆਵੈ ॥੨॥

Oohaa kaam na aavæ ih biḋʰ oh logan hee paṫee▫aavæ. ||2||

There, these are of no use at all. By these things, they only please other people. ||2||

ਚਤੁਰ ਬੇਦ ਮੁਖ ਬਚਨੀ ਉਚਰੈ ਆਗੈ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ॥

Chaṫur béḋ mukʰ bachnee uchræ aagæ mahal na paa▫ee▫æ.

Reciting the four Vedas from memory, they do not obtain the Mansion of the Lord’s Presence hereafter.

ਬੂਝੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਏਕੁ ਸੁਧਾਖਰੁ ਓਹੁ ਸਗਲੀ ਝਾਖ ਝਖਾਈਐ ॥੩॥

Boojʰæ naahee ék suḋʰaakʰar oh saglee jʰaakʰ jʰakʰaa▫ee▫æ. ||3||

Those who do not understand the One Pure Word, utter total nonsense. ||3||

ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਹਤੋ ਇਹੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ਜਿ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਸੁ ਪਾਰ ਗਰਾਮੀ ॥

Naanak kahṫo ih beechaaraa jė kamaavæ so paar garaamee.

Nanak voices this opinion: those who practice it, swim across.

ਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹੁ ਅਰੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵਹੁ ਤਿਆਗਹੁ ਮਨਹੁ ਗੁਮਾਨੀ ॥੪॥੬॥੧੬੪॥

Gur sévhu ar naam ḋʰi▫aavahu ṫi▫aagahu manhu gumaanee. ||4||6||164||

Serve the Guru, and meditate on the Naam; renounce the egotistical pride from your mind. ||4||6||164||

ਗਉੜੀ ਮਾਲਾ ੫ ॥

Ga▫oṛee maalaa 5.

Gauree Maalaa, Fifth Mehl:

ਮਾਧਉ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਮੁਖਿ ਕਹੀਐ ॥

Maaḋʰa▫o har har har mukʰ kahee▫æ.

O Lord, I chant Your Name, Har, Har, Har.

ਹਮ ਤੇ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਜਿਉ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਤਿਉ ਰਹੀਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Ham ṫé kachʰoo na hovæ su▫aamee ji▫o raakʰo ṫi▫o rahee▫æ. ||1|| rahaa▫o.

I cannot do anything by myself, O Lord and Master. As You keep me, so I remain. ||1||Pause||

ਕਿਆ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰੈ ਕਿ ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰਾ ਕਿਆ ਇਸੁ ਹਾਥਿ ਬਿਚਾਰੇ ॥

Ki▫aa kichʰ karæ kė karnæhaaraa ki▫aa is haaṫʰ bichaaré.

What can the mere mortal do? What is in the hands of this poor creature?

ਜਿਤੁ ਤੁਮ ਲਾਵਹੁ ਤਿਤ ਹੀ ਲਾਗਾ ਪੂਰਨ ਖਸਮ ਹਮਾਰੇ ॥੧॥

Jiṫ ṫum laavhu ṫiṫ hee laagaa pooran kʰasam hamaaré. ||1||

As You attach us, so we are attached, O my Perfect Lord and Master. ||1||

ਕਰਹੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਸਰਬ ਕੇ ਦਾਤੇ ਏਕ ਰੂਪ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਵਹੁ ॥

Karahu kirpaa sarab ké ḋaaṫé ék roop liv laavhu.

Take pity on me, O Great Giver of all, so that I may enshrine love for Your Form alone.

ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਪਹਿ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਾਵਹੁ ॥੨॥੭॥੧੬੫॥

Naanak kee bénanṫee har pėh apunaa naam japaavhu. ||2||7||165||

Nanak offers this prayer to the Lord, that he may chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||2||7||165||

ਰਾਗੁ ਗਉੜੀ ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੫

Raag Gauree Maajh, Fifth Mehl:

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

Ik▫oaⁿkaar saṫgur parsaaḋ.

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਦਮੋਦਰ ਰਾਇਆ ਜੀਉ ॥

Ḋeen ḋa▫i▫aal ḋamoḋar raa▫i▫aa jee▫o.

O Merciful to the meek, O Dear Lord King,

ਕੋਟਿ ਜਨਾ ਕਰਿ ਸੇਵ ਲਗਾਇਆ ਜੀਉ ॥

Kot janaa kar sév lagaa▫i▫aa jee▫o.

You have engaged millions of people in Your Service.

ਭਗਤ ਵਛਲੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਬਿਰਦੁ ਰਖਾਇਆ ਜੀਉ ॥

Bʰagaṫ vachʰal ṫéraa biraḋ rakʰaa▫i▫aa jee▫o.

You are the Lover of Your devotees; this is Your Nature.

ਪੂਰਨ ਸਭਨੀ ਜਾਈ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥

Pooran sabʰnee jaa▫ee jee▫o. ||1||

You are totally pervading all places. ||1||

ਕਿਉ ਪੇਖਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਕਵਣ ਸੁਕਰਣੀ ਜੀਉ ॥

Ki▫o pékʰaa pareeṫam kavaṇ sukarṇee jee▫o.

How can I behold my Beloved? What is that way of life?

ਸੰਤਾ ਦਾਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਚਰਣੀ ਜੀਉ ॥

Sanṫaa ḋaasee sévaa charṇee jee▫o.

Become the slave of the Saints, and serve at their feet.

ਇਹੁ ਜੀਉ ਵਤਾਈ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈ ਜੀਉ ॥

Ih jee▫o vaṫaa▫ee bal bal jaa▫ee jee▫o.

I dedicate this soul; I am a sacrifice, a sacrifice to them.

ਤਿਸੁ ਨਿਵਿ ਨਿਵਿ ਲਾਗਉ ਪਾਈ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥

Ṫis niv niv laaga▫o paa▫ee jee▫o. ||2||

Bowing low, I fall at the Feet of the Lord. ||2||

ਪੋਥੀ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਬੇਦ ਖੋਜੰਤਾ ਜੀਉ ॥

Poṫʰee pandiṫ béḋ kʰojanṫaa jee▫o.

The Pandits, the religious scholars, study the books of the Vedas.

ਹੋਇ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨਾਵੰਤਾ ਜੀਉ ॥

Ho▫é bæraagee ṫiraṫʰ naavanṫaa jee▫o.

Some become renunciates, and bathe at sacred shrines of pilgrimage.

ਗੀਤ ਨਾਦ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗਾਵੰਤਾ ਜੀਉ ॥

Geeṫ naaḋ keerṫan gaavanṫaa jee▫o.

Some sing tunes and melodies and songs.

ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥

Har nirbʰa▫o naam ḋʰi▫aa▫ee jee▫o. ||3||

But I meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Fearless Lord. ||3||

ਭਏ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਜੀਉ ॥

Bʰa▫é kirpaal su▫aamee méré jee▫o.

My Lord and Master has become merciful to me.

ਪਤਿਤ ਪਵਿਤ ਲਗਿ ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਪੈਰੇ ਜੀਉ ॥

Paṫiṫ paviṫ lag gur ké pæré jee▫o.

I was a sinner, and I have been sanctified, taking to the Guru’s Feet.
