23 ਜਿਨਾ ਰਾਸਿ ਨ ਸਚੁ ਹੈ ਕਿਉ ਤਿਨਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ Jinaa raas na sach hæ ki▫o ṫinaa sukʰ ho▫é. Those who do not have the Assets of Truth-how can they find peace? ਖੋਟੈ ਵਣਜਿ ਵਣੰਜਿਐ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਖੋਟਾ ਹੋਇ ॥ Kʰotæ vaṇaj vaṇanji▫æ man ṫan kʰotaa ho▫é. By dealing their deals of falsehood, their minds and bodies become false. ਫਾਹੀ ਫਾਥੇ ਮਿਰਗ ਜਿਉ ਦੂਖੁ ਘਣੋ ਨਿਤ ਰੋਇ ॥੨॥ Faahee faaṫʰé mirag ji▫o ḋookʰ gʰaṇo niṫ ro▫é. ||2|| Like the deer caught in the trap, they suffer in terrible agony; they continually cry out in pain. ||2|| ਖੋਟੇ ਪੋਤੈ ਨਾ ਪਵਹਿ ਤਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਦਰਸੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥ Kʰoté poṫæ naa pavėh ṫin har gur ḋaras na ho▫é. The counterfeit coins are not put into the Treasury; they do not obtain the Blessed Vision of the Lord-Guru. ਖੋਟੇ ਜਾਤਿ ਨ ਪਤਿ ਹੈ ਖੋਟਿ ਨ ਸੀਝਸਿ ਕੋਇ ॥ Kʰoté jaaṫ na paṫ hæ kʰot na seejʰas ko▫é. The false ones have no social status or honor. No one succeeds through falsehood. ਖੋਟੇ ਖੋਟੁ ਕਮਾਵਣਾ ਆਇ ਗਇਆ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਇ ॥੩॥ Kʰoté kʰot kamaavaṇaa aa▫é ga▫i▫aa paṫ kʰo▫é. ||3|| Practicing falsehood again and again, people come and go in reincarnation, and forfeit their honor. ||3|| ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨੁ ਸਮਝਾਈਐ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਾਲਾਹ ॥ Naanak man samjaa▫ee▫æ gur kæ sabaḋ saalaah. O Nanak! Instruct your mind through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, and praise the Lord. ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਤਿਆ ਭਾਰੁ ਨ ਭਰਮੁ ਤਿਨਾਹ ॥ Raam naam rang raṫi▫aa bʰaar na bʰaram ṫinaah. Those who are imbued with the love of the Name of the Lord are not loaded down by doubt. ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਲਾਹਾ ਅਗਲਾ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਹਰਿ ਮਨ ਮਾਹ ॥੪॥੨੩॥ Har jap laahaa aglaa nirbʰa▫o har man maah. ||4||23|| Those who chant the Name of the Lord earn great profits; the Fearless Lord abides within their minds. ||4||23|| ਸਿਰੀਰਾਗੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ਘਰੁ ੨ ॥ Sireeraag mėhlaa 1 gʰar 2. Siree Raag, First Mehl, Second House: ਧਨੁ ਜੋਬਨੁ ਅਰੁ ਫੁਲੜਾ ਨਾਠੀਅੜੇ ਦਿਨ ਚਾਰਿ ॥ Ḋʰan joban ar fulṛaa naatʰee▫aṛé ḋin chaar. Wealth, the beauty of youth and flowers are guests for only a few days. ਪਬਣਿ ਕੇਰੇ ਪਤ ਜਿਉ ਢਲਿ ਢੁਲਿ ਜੁੰਮਣਹਾਰ ॥੧॥ Pabaṇ kéré paṫ ji▫o dʰal dʰul jummaṇhaar. ||1|| Like the leaves of the water-lily, they wither and fade and finally die. ||1|| ਰੰਗੁ ਮਾਣਿ ਲੈ ਪਿਆਰਿਆ ਜਾ ਜੋਬਨੁ ਨਉ ਹੁਲਾ ॥ Rang maaṇ læ pi▫aari▫aa jaa joban na▫o hulaa. Be happy, dear beloved, as long as your youth is fresh and delightful. ਦਿਨ ਥੋੜੜੇ ਥਕੇ ਭਇਆ ਪੁਰਾਣਾ ਚੋਲਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ Ḋin ṫʰoṛ▫ṛé ṫʰaké bʰa▫i▫aa puraaṇaa cholaa. ||1|| rahaa▫o. But your days are few-you have grown weary, and now your body has grown old. ||1||Pause|| ਸਜਣ ਮੇਰੇ ਰੰਗੁਲੇ ਜਾਇ ਸੁਤੇ ਜੀਰਾਣਿ ॥ Sajaṇ méré rangulé jaa▫é suṫé jaaraaṇ. My playful friends have gone to sleep in the graveyard. ਹੰ ਭੀ ਵੰਞਾ ਡੁਮਣੀ ਰੋਵਾ ਝੀਣੀ ਬਾਣਿ ॥੨॥ Haⁿ bʰee vañaa dumṇee rovaa jʰeeṇee baaṇ. ||2|| In my double-mindedness, I shall have to go as well. I cry in a feeble voice. ||2|| ਕੀ ਨ ਸੁਣੇਹੀ ਗੋਰੀਏ ਆਪਣ ਕੰਨੀ ਸੋਇ ॥ Kee na suṇéhee goree▫é aapaṇ kannee so▫é. Haven’t you heard the call from beyond, O beautiful soul-bride? ਲਗੀ ਆਵਹਿ ਸਾਹੁਰੈ ਨਿਤ ਨ ਪੇਈਆ ਹੋਇ ॥੩॥ Lagee aavahi saahuræ niṫ na pé▫ee▫aa ho▫é. ||3|| You must go to your in-laws; you cannot stay with your parents forever. ||3|| ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਤੀ ਪੇਈਐ ਜਾਣੁ ਵਿਰਤੀ ਸੰਨਿ ॥ Naanak suṫee pé▫ee▫æ jaaṇ virṫee sann. O Nanak! Know that she who sleeps in her parents’ home is plundered in broad daylight. ਗੁਣਾ ਗਵਾਈ ਗੰਠੜੀ ਅਵਗਣ ਚਲੀ ਬੰਨਿ ॥੪॥੨੪॥ Guṇaa gavaa▫ee gantʰ▫ṛee avgaṇ chalee bann. ||4||24|| She has lost her bouquet of merits; gathering one of demerits, she departs. ||4||24|| ਸਿਰੀਰਾਗੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ਘਰੁ ਦੂਜਾ ੨ ॥ Sireeraag mėhlaa 1 gʰar ḋoojaa 2. Siree Raag, First Mehl, Second House: ਆਪੇ ਰਸੀਆ ਆਪਿ ਰਸੁ ਆਪੇ ਰਾਵਣਹਾਰੁ ॥ Aapé rasee▫aa aap ras aapé ravaṇhaar. He Himself is the Enjoyer, and He Himself is the Enjoyment. He Himself is the Ravisher of all. ਆਪੇ ਹੋਵੈ ਚੋਲੜਾ ਆਪੇ ਸੇਜ ਭਤਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ Aapé hovæ cholṛaa aapé séj bʰaṫaar. ||1|| He Himself is the Bride in her dress, He Himself is the Bridegroom on the bed. ||1|| ਰੰਗਿ ਰਤਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ Rang raṫaa méraa saahib rav rahi▫aa bʰarpoor. ||1|| rahaa▫o. My Lord and Master is imbued with love; He is totally permeating and pervading all. ||1||Pause|| ਆਪੇ ਮਾਛੀ ਮਛੁਲੀ ਆਪੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਜਾਲੁ ॥ Aapé maachʰee machʰulee aapé paaṇee jaal. He Himself is the fisherman and the fish; He Himself is the water and the net. ਆਪੇ ਜਾਲ ਮਣਕੜਾ ਆਪੇ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਲਾਲੁ ॥੨॥ Aapé jaal maṇkaṛaa aapé anḋar laal. ||2|| He Himself is the sinker, and He Himself is the bait. ||2|| ਆਪੇ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਰੰਗੁਲਾ ਸਖੀਏ ਮੇਰਾ ਲਾਲੁ ॥ Aapé baho biḋʰ rangulaa sakʰee▫é méraa laal. He Himself loves in so many ways. O sister soul-brides, He is my Beloved. ਨਿਤ ਰਵੈ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਦੇਖੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ਹਾਲੁ ॥੩॥ Niṫ ravæ sohaagaṇee ḋékʰ hamaaraa haal. ||3|| He continually ravishes and enjoys the happy soul-brides; just look at the plight I am in without Him! ||3|| ਪ੍ਰਣਵੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਤੂ ਸਰਵਰੁ ਤੂ ਹੰਸੁ ॥ Paraṇvæ Naanak bénṫee ṫoo sarvar ṫoo hans. Prays Nanak, please hear my prayer: You are the pool, and You are the soul-swan. ਕਉਲੁ ਤੂ ਹੈ ਕਵੀਆ ਤੂ ਹੈ ਆਪੇ ਵੇਖਿ ਵਿਗਸੁ ॥੪॥੨੫॥ Ka▫ul ṫoo hæ kavee▫aa ṫoo hæ aapé vékʰ vigas. ||4||25|| You are the lotus flower of the day and You are the water-lily of the night. You Yourself behold them, and blossom forth in bliss. ||4||25|| ਸਿਰੀਰਾਗੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ਘਰੁ ੩ ॥ Sireeraag mėhlaa 1 gʰar 3. Siree Raag, First Mehl, Third House: ਇਹੁ ਤਨੁ ਧਰਤੀ ਬੀਜੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਕਰੋ ਸਲਿਲ ਆਪਾਉ ਸਾਰਿੰਗਪਾਣੀ ॥ Ih ṫan ḋʰarṫee beej karmaa karo salil aapaa▫o saaringpaaṇee. Make this body the field, and plant the seed of good actions. Water it with the Name of the Lord, who holds all the world in His Hands. ਮਨੁ ਕਿਰਸਾਣੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਿਦੈ ਜੰਮਾਇ ਲੈ ਇਉ ਪਾਵਸਿ ਪਦੁ ਨਿਰਬਾਣੀ ॥੧॥ Man kirsaaṇ har riḋæ jammaa▫é læ i▫o paavas paḋ nirbaaṇee. ||1|| Let your mind be the farmer; the Lord shall sprout in your heart, and you shall attain the state of Nirvana. ||1|| ਕਾਹੇ ਗਰਬਸਿ ਮੂੜੇ ਮਾਇਆ ॥ Kaahé garbas mooṛé maa▫i▫aa. You fool! Why are you so proud of Maya? ਪਿਤ ਸੁਤੋ ਸਗਲ ਕਾਲਤ੍ਰ ਮਾਤਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੋਹਿ ਨ ਅੰਤਿ ਸਖਾਇਆ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ Piṫ suṫo sagal kaalṫar maaṫaa ṫéré hohi na anṫ sakʰaa▫i▫aa. Rahaa▫o. Father, children, spouse, mother and all relatives-they shall not be your helpers in the end. ||Pause|| ਬਿਖੈ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਦੁਸਟ ਕਿਰਖਾ ਕਰੇ ਇਨ ਤਜਿ ਆਤਮੈ ਹੋਇ ਧਿਆਈ ॥ Bikʰæ bikaar ḋusat kirkʰaa karé in ṫaj aaṫmæ ho▫é ḋʰi▫aa▫ee. So, weed out evil, wickedness and corruption; leave these behind, and let your soul meditate on God. ਜਪੁ ਤਪੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਹੋਹਿ ਜਬ ਰਾਖੇ ਕਮਲੁ ਬਿਗਸੈ ਮਧੁ ਆਸ੍ਰਮਾਈ ॥੨॥ Jap ṫap sanjam hohi jab raakʰé kamal bigsæ maḋʰ aasarmaa▫ee. ||2|| When chanting, austere meditation and self-discipline become your protectors, then the lotus blossoms forth, and the honey trickles out. ||2|| ਬੀਸ ਸਪਤਾਹਰੋ ਬਾਸਰੋ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਹੈ ਤੀਨਿ ਖੋੜਾ ਨਿਤ ਕਾਲੁ ਸਾਰੈ ॥ Bees sapṫaahro baasro sangrahæ ṫeen kʰoṛaa niṫ kaal saaræ. Bring the twenty-seven elements of the body under your control, and throughout the three stages of life, remember death. ਦਸ ਅਠਾਰ ਮੈ ਅਪਰੰਪਰੋ ਚੀਨੈ ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਇਵ ਏਕੁ ਤਾਰੈ ॥੩॥੨੬॥ Ḋas atʰaar mæ aprampro cheenæ kahæ Naanak iv ék ṫaaræ. ||3||26|| See the Infinite Lord in the ten directions, and in all the variety of nature. Says Nanak, in this way, the One Lord shall carry you across. ||3||26|| |
