ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਅਚੁਤ ॥

Pareeṫam bʰagvaan achuṫ.

The Beloved Eternal Lord God,

ਨਾਨਕ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਾਗਰ ਤਾਰਣਹ ॥੧੪॥

Naanak sansaar saagar ṫaarṇah. ||14||

O Nanak! Carries us across the world-ocean. ||14||

ਮਰਣੰ ਬਿਸਰਣੰ ਗੋਬਿੰਦਹ ॥

Marṇaⁿ bisraṇaⁿ gobinḋah.

It is death to forget the Lord of the Universe.

ਜੀਵਣੰ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਧੵਾਵਣਹ ॥

Jeevaṇaⁿ har naam ḋʰa▫yaavaṇėh.

It is life to meditate on the Name of the Lord.

ਲਭਣੰ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗੇਣ ॥

Labʰ▫ṇaⁿ saaḋʰ sangéṇ.

The Lord is found in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy,

ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਣਹ ॥੧੫॥

Naanak har poorab likʰ▫ṇėh. ||15||

O Nanak! By preordained destiny. ||15||

ਦਸਨ ਬਿਹੂਨ ਭੁਯੰਗੰ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੰ ਗਾਰੁੜੀ ਨਿਵਾਰੰ ॥

Ḋasan bihoon bʰu▫yaaⁿgaⁿ manṫraⁿ gaaruṛee nivaaraⁿ.

The snake-charmer, by his spell, neutralizes the poison and leaves the snake without fangs.

ਬੵਾਧਿ ਉਪਾੜਣ ਸੰਤੰ ॥

Béaaḋʰ upaaṛaṇ sanṫaⁿ.

Just so, the Saints remove suffering;

ਨਾਨਕ ਲਬਧ ਕਰਮਣਹ ॥੧੬॥

Naanak labaḋʰ karamṇėh. ||16||

O Nanak! They are found by good karma. ||16||

ਜਥ ਕਥ ਰਮਣੰ ਸਰਣੰ ਸਰਬਤ੍ਰ ਜੀਅਣਹ ॥

Jaṫʰ kaṫʰ ramṇaⁿ sarṇaⁿ sarbaṫar jee▫aṇah.

The Lord is All-pervading everywhere; He gives Sanctuary to all living beings.

ਤਥ ਲਗਣੰ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨਾਨਕ ॥

Ṫaṫʰ lagṇaⁿ parém Naanak.

The mind is touched by His Love, O Nanak!

ਪਰਸਾਦੰ ਗੁਰ ਦਰਸਨਹ ॥੧੭॥

Parsaaḋaⁿ gur ḋarasnėh. ||17||

by Guru’s Grace, and the Blessed Vision of His Darshan. ||17||

ਚਰਣਾਰਬਿੰਦ ਮਨ ਬਿਧੵੰ ॥

Charṇaarbinḋ man biḋʰ▫yaⁿ.

My mind is pierced through by the Lord’s Lotus Feet.

ਸਿਧੵੰ ਸਰਬ ਕੁਸਲਣਹ ॥

Siḋʰ▫yaⁿ sarab kusalṇėh.

I am blessed with total happiness.

ਗਾਥਾ ਗਾਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਬੵੰ ਪਰਾ ਪੂਰਬਣਹ ॥੧੮॥

Gaaṫʰaa gavanṫ Naanak bʰab▫yaⁿ paraa poorabṇėh. ||18||

Holy people have been singing this Gaat’haa, O Nanak! Since the very beginning of time. ||18||

ਸੁਭ ਬਚਨ ਰਮਣੰ ਗਵਣੰ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗੇਣ ਉਧਰਣਹ ॥

Subʰ bachan ramṇaⁿ gavṇaⁿ saaḋʰ sangéṇ uḋʰarṇėh.

Chanting and singing the Sublime Word of God in the Saadh Sangat,

ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਾਗਰੰ ਨਾਨਕ ਪੁਨਰਪਿ ਜਨਮ ਨ ਲਭੵਤੇ ॥੧੯॥

Sansaar saagraⁿ Naanak punrap janam na labʰ▫yaṫæ. ||19||

mortals are saved from the world-ocean. O Nanak! They shall never again be consigned to reincarnation. ||19||

ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਣ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਬੀਚਾਰੰ ॥

Béḋ puraaṇ saasṫar beechaaraⁿ.

People contemplate the Vedas, Puranas and Shastras.

ਏਕੰਕਾਰ ਨਾਮ ਉਰ ਧਾਰੰ ॥

Ékankaar naam ur ḋʰaaraⁿ.

But by enshrining in their hearts the Naam, the Name of the One and Only Creator of the Universe,

ਕੁਲਹ ਸਮੂਹ ਸਗਲ ਉਧਾਰੰ ॥

Kulah samooh sagal uḋʰaaraⁿ.

everyone can be saved.

ਬਡਭਾਗੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੋ ਤਾਰੰ ॥੨੦॥

Badbʰaagee Naanak ko ṫaaraⁿ. ||20||

By great good fortune, O Nanak! A few cross over like this. ||20||

ਸਿਮਰਣੰ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਨਾਮੰ ਉਧਰਣੰ ਕੁਲ ਸਮੂਹਣਹ ॥

Simarṇaⁿ gobinḋ naamaⁿ uḋʰarṇaⁿ kul samoohṇėh.

Meditating in remembrance of the Naam, the Name of Lord of the Universe, all one’s generations are saved.

ਲਬਧਿਅੰ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗੇਣ ਨਾਨਕ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਭੇਟੰਤਿ ਦਰਸਨਹ ॥੨੧॥

Labḋʰi▫aⁿ saaḋʰ sangéṇ Naanak vadbʰaagee bʰétanṫ ḋarasnėh. ||21||

It is obtained in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. O Nanak! By great good fortune, the Blessed Vision of His Darshan is seen. ||21||

ਸਰਬ ਦੋਖ ਪਰੰਤਿਆਗੀ ਸਰਬ ਧਰਮ ਦ੍ਰਿੜੰਤਣਃ ॥

Sarab ḋokʰ paraⁿṫiaagee sarab ḋʰaram ḋariṛ▫aaⁿṫaṇh.

Abandon all your evil habits, and implant all Dharmic faith within.

ਲਬਧੇਣਿ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗੇਣਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲਿਖੵਣਃ ॥੨੨॥

Labʰ▫ḋʰéṇ saaḋʰ sangéṇ Naanak masṫak likʰ▫yaṇ▫a. ||22||

The Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, is obtained, O Nanak! By those who have such destiny written upon their foreheads. ||22||

ਹੋਯੋ ਹੈ ਹੋਵੰਤੋ ਹਰਣ ਭਰਣ ਸੰਪੂਰਣਃ ॥

Hoyo hæ hovanṫo haraṇ bʰaraṇ sampooraṇ▫a.

God was, is, and shall always be. He sustains and destroys all.

ਸਾਧੂ ਸਤਮ ਜਾਣੋ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਕਾਰਣੰ ॥੨੩॥

Saaḋʰoo saṫam jaaṇo Naanak pareeṫ kaarṇaⁿ. ||23||

Know that these Holy people are true, O Nanak; they are in love with the Lord. ||23||

ਸੁਖੇਣ ਬੈਣ ਰਤਨੰ ਰਚਨੰ ਕਸੁੰਭ ਰੰਗਣਃ ॥

Sukʰéṇ bæṇ raṫanaⁿ rachanaⁿ kasumbʰ raⁿgaṇ▫a.

The mortal is engrossed in sweet words and transitory pleasures which shall soon fade away.

ਰੋਗ ਸੋਗ ਬਿਓਗੰ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਸੁਪਨਹ ॥੨੪॥

Rog sog biogaⁿ Naanak sukʰ na supnah. ||24||

Disease, sorrow and separation afflict him; O Nanak! He never finds peace, even in dreams. ||24||

Phunhay, Fifth Mehl:

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

Ik▫oaⁿkaar saṫgur parsaaḋ.

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਹਾਥਿ ਕਲੰਮ ਅਗੰਮ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲੇਖਾਵਤੀ ॥

Haaṫʰ kalamm agamm masṫak lékʰaavaṫee.

With Pen in Hand, the Unfathomable Lord writes the mortal’s destiny upon his forehead.

ਉਰਝਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਸਭ ਸੰਗਿ ਅਨੂਪ ਰੂਪਾਵਤੀ ॥

Urajʰ rahi▫o sabʰ sang anoop roopaavaṫee.

The Incomparably Beautiful Lord is involved with all.

ਉਸਤਤਿ ਕਹਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਮੁਖਹੁ ਤੁਹਾਰੀਆ ॥

Usṫaṫ kahan na jaa▫é mukʰahu ṫuhaaree▫aa.

I cannot utter Your Praises with my mouth.

ਮੋਹੀ ਦੇਖਿ ਦਰਸੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀਆ ॥੧॥

Mohee ḋékʰ ḋaras Naanak balihaaree▫aa. ||1||

Nanak is fascinated, gazing upon the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan. I am a sacrifice to You. ||1||

ਸੰਤ ਸਭਾ ਮਹਿ ਬੈਸਿ ਕਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਮੈ ਕਹਾਂ ॥

Sanṫ sabʰaa mėh bæs kė keeraṫ mæ kahaaⁿ.

Seated in the Society of the Saints, I chant the Lord’s Praises.

ਅਰਪੀ ਸਭੁ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਏਹੁ ਜੀਉ ਸਭੁ ਦਿਵਾ ॥

Arpee sabʰ seegaar éhu jee▫o sabʰ ḋivaa.

I dedicate all my adornments to Him, and give all this soul to Him.

ਆਸ ਪਿਆਸੀ ਸੇਜ ਸੁ ਕੰਤਿ ਵਿਛਾਈਐ ॥

Aas pi▫aasee séj so kanṫ vichʰaa▫ee▫æ.

With hopeful yearning for Him, I have made the bed for my Husband.

ਹਰਿਹਾਂ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਭਾਗੁ ਤ ਸਾਜਨੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੨॥

Harihaaⁿ masṫak hovæ bʰaag ṫa saajan paa▫ee▫æ. ||2||

O Lord! If such good destiny is inscribed upon my forehead, then I shall find my Friend. ||2||

ਸਖੀ ਕਾਜਲ ਹਾਰ ਤੰਬੋਲ ਸਭੈ ਕਿਛੁ ਸਾਜਿਆ ॥

Sakʰee kaajal haar ṫambol sabʰæ kichʰ saaji▫aa.

O my companion, I have prepared everything: make-up, garlands and betel-leaves.

ਸੋਲਹ ਕੀਏ ਸੀਗਾਰ ਕਿ ਅੰਜਨੁ ਪਾਜਿਆ ॥

Solah kee▫é seegaar kė anjan paaji▫aa.

I have embellished myself with the sixteen decorations, and applied mascara to my eyes.

ਜੇ ਘਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਕੰਤੁ ਤ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥

Jé gʰar aavæ kanṫ ṫa sabʰ kichʰ paa▫ee▫æ.

If my Husband Lord comes to my home, then I obtain everything.

ਹਰਿਹਾਂ ਕੰਤੈ ਬਾਝੁ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਸਭੁ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਾਈਐ ॥੩॥

Harihaaⁿ kanṫæ baajʰ seegaar sabʰ birṫʰaa jaa▫ee▫æ. ||3||

O Lord! Without my Husband, all these adornments are useless. ||3||

ਜਿਸੁ ਘਰਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਕੰਤੁ ਸਾ ਵਡਭਾਗਣੇ ॥

Jis gʰar vasi▫aa kanṫ saa vadbʰaagṇé.

Very fortunate is she, within whose home the Husband Lord abides.

ਤਿਸੁ ਬਣਿਆ ਹਭੁ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਸਾਈ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੇ ॥

Ṫis baṇi▫aa habʰ seegaar saa▫ee sohaagṇé.

She is totally adorned and decorated; she is a happy soul-bride.

ਹਉ ਸੁਤੀ ਹੋਇ ਅਚਿੰਤ ਮਨਿ ਆਸ ਪੁਰਾਈਆ ॥

Ha▫o suṫee ho▫é achinṫ man aas puraa▫ee▫aa.

I sleep in peace, without anxiety; the hopes of my mind have been fulfilled.

ਹਰਿਹਾਂ ਜਾ ਘਰਿ ਆਇਆ ਕੰਤੁ ਤ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਪਾਈਆ ॥੪॥

Harihaaⁿ jaa gʰar aa▫i▫aa kanṫ ṫa sabʰ kichʰ paa▫ee▫aa. ||4||

O Lord! When my Husband came into the home of my heart, I obtained everything. ||4||
