ਕਰਿ ਦਇਆ ਲੇਹੁ ਲੜਿ ਲਾਇ ॥

Kar ḋa▫i▫aa lého laṛ laa▫é.

Be Merciful, and attach me to the hem of Your robe.

ਨਾਨਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥੧॥

Naankaa naam ḋʰi▫aa▫é. ||1||

Nanak meditates on the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1||

ਦੀਨਾ ਨਾਥ ਦਇਆਲ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੀਨਾ ਨਾਥ ਦਇਆਲ ॥

Ḋeenaa naaṫʰ ḋa▫i▫aal méré su▫aamee ḋeenaa naaṫʰ ḋa▫i▫aal.

O Merciful Master of the meek, You are my Lord and Master, O Merciful Master of the meek.

ਜਾਚਉ ਸੰਤ ਰਵਾਲ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Jaacha▫o sanṫ ravaal. ||1|| rahaa▫o.

I yearn for the dust of the feet of the Saints. ||1||Pause||

ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਕੂਪ ॥

Sansaar bikʰi▫aa koop.

The world is a pit of poison,

ਤਮ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਮੋਹਤ ਘੂਪ ॥

Ṫam agi▫aan mohaṫ gʰoop.

filled with the utter darkness of ignorance and emotional attachment.

ਗਹਿ ਭੁਜਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੀ ਲੇਹੁ ॥

Gėh bʰujaa parabʰ jee lého.

Please take my hand, and save me, Dear God.

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਦੇਹੁ ॥

Har naam apunaa ḋéh.

Please bless me with Your Name, Lord.

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨਾ ਨਹੀ ਠਾਉ ॥

Parabʰ ṫujʰ binaa nahee tʰaa▫o.

Without You, God, I have no place at all.

ਨਾਨਕਾ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਉ ॥੨॥

Naankaa bal bal jaa▫o. ||2||

Nanak is a sacrifice, a sacrifice to You. ||2||

ਲੋਭਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਬਾਧੀ ਦੇਹ ॥

Lobʰ mohi baaḋʰee ḋéh.

The human body is in the grip of greed and attachment.

ਬਿਨੁ ਭਜਨ ਹੋਵਤ ਖੇਹ ॥

Bin bʰajan hovaṫ kʰéh.

Without meditating and vibrating upon the Lord, it is reduced to ashes.

ਜਮਦੂਤ ਮਹਾ ਭਇਆਨ ॥

Jamḋooṫ mahaa bʰa▫i▫aan.

The Messenger of Death is dreadful and horrible.

ਚਿਤ ਗੁਪਤ ਕਰਮਹਿ ਜਾਨ ॥

Chiṫ gupaṫ karmėh jaan.

The recording scribes of the conscious and the unconscious, Chitr and Gupt, know all actions and karma.

ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਨਿ ਸਾਖਿ ਸੁਨਾਇ ॥

Ḋin ræn saakʰ sunaa▫é.

Day and night, they bear witness.

ਨਾਨਕਾ ਹਰਿ ਸਰਨਾਇ ॥੩॥

Naankaa har sarnaa▫é. ||3||

Nanak seeks the Sanctuary of the Lord. ||3||

ਭੈ ਭੰਜਨਾ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ॥

Bʰæ bʰanjnaa muraar.

O Lord, Destroyer of fear and egotism,

ਕਰਿ ਦਇਆ ਪਤਿਤ ਉਧਾਰਿ ॥

Kar ḋa▫i▫aa paṫiṫ uḋʰaar.

be merciful, and save the sinners.

ਮੇਰੇ ਦੋਖ ਗਨੇ ਨ ਜਾਹਿ ॥

Méré ḋokʰ gané na jaahi.

My sins cannot even be counted.

ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਤਹਿ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥

Har binaa kaṫėh samaahi.

Without the Lord, who can hide them?

ਗਹਿ ਓਟ ਚਿਤਵੀ ਨਾਥ ॥

Gėh ot chiṫvee naaṫʰ.

I thought of Your Support, and seized it, O my Lord and Master.

ਨਾਨਕਾ ਦੇ ਰਖੁ ਹਾਥ ॥੪॥

Naankaa ḋé rakʰ haaṫʰ. ||4||

Please, give Nanak Your hand and save him, Lord! ||4||

ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧੇ ਗੋਪਾਲ ॥

Har guṇ niḋʰé gopaal.

The Lord, the treasure of virtue, the Lord of the world,

ਸਰਬ ਘਟ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲ ॥

Sarab gʰat parṫipaal.

cherishes and sustains every heart.

ਮਨਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਦਰਸਨ ਪਿਆਸ ॥

Man pareeṫ ḋarsan pi▫aas.

My mind is thirsty for Your Love, and the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan.

ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਪੂਰਨ ਆਸ ॥

Gobinḋ pooran aas.

O Lord of the Universe, please fulfill my hopes.

ਇਕ ਨਿਮਖ ਰਹਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥

Ik nimakʰ rahan na jaa▫é.

I cannot survive, even for an instant.

ਵਡ ਭਾਗਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਇ ॥੫॥

vad bʰaag Naanak paa▫é. ||5||

By great good fortune, Nanak has found the Lord. ||5||

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨਾ ਨਹੀ ਹੋਰ ॥

Parabʰ ṫujʰ binaa nahee hor.

Without You, God, there is no other at all.

ਮਨਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਚੰਦ ਚਕੋਰ ॥

Man pareeṫ chanḋ chakor.

My mind loves You, as the partridge loves the moon,

ਜਿਉ ਮੀਨ ਜਲ ਸਿਉ ਹੇਤੁ ॥

Ji▫o meen jal si▫o héṫ.

as the fish loves the water,

ਅਲਿ ਕਮਲ ਭਿੰਨੁ ਨ ਭੇਤੁ ॥

Al kamal bʰinn na bʰéṫ.

as the bee and the lotus cannot be separated.

ਜਿਉ ਚਕਵੀ ਸੂਰਜ ਆਸ ॥

Ji▫o chakvee sooraj aas.

As the Chakvi bird longs for the sun,

ਨਾਨਕ ਚਰਨ ਪਿਆਸ ॥੬॥

Naanak charan pi▫aas. ||6||

So does Nanak yearn for the Lord’s feet. ||6||

ਜਿਉ ਤਰੁਨਿ ਭਰਤ ਪਰਾਨ ॥

Ji▫o ṫarun bʰaraṫ paraan.

As the young bride places the hopes of her life in her husband,

ਜਿਉ ਲੋਭੀਐ ਧਨੁ ਦਾਨੁ ॥

Ji▫o lobʰee▫æ ḋʰan ḋaan.

as the greedy person looks upon the gift of wealth,

ਜਿਉ ਦੂਧ ਜਲਹਿ ਸੰਜੋਗੁ ॥

Ji▫o ḋooḋʰ jalėh sanjog.

as milk is joined to water,

ਜਿਉ ਮਹਾ ਖੁਧਿਆਰਥ ਭੋਗੁ ॥

Ji▫o mahaa kʰuḋʰi▫aaraṫʰ bʰog.

as food is to the very hungry man,

ਜਿਉ ਮਾਤ ਪੂਤਹਿ ਹੇਤੁ ॥

Ji▫o maaṫ pooṫėh héṫ.

and as the mother loves her son,

ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੇਤ ॥੭॥

Har simar Naanak néṫ. ||7||

So does Nanak, he constantly remembers the Lord in meditation. ||7||

ਜਿਉ ਦੀਪ ਪਤਨ ਪਤੰਗ ॥

Ji▫o ḋeep paṫan paṫang.

As the moth falls into the lamp,

ਜਿਉ ਚੋਰੁ ਹਿਰਤ ਨਿਸੰਗ ॥

Ji▫o chor hiraṫ nisang.

as the thief steals without hesitation,

ਮੈਗਲਹਿ ਕਾਮੈ ਬੰਧੁ ॥

Mæglahi kaamæ banḋʰ.

as the elephant is trapped by its sexual urges,

ਜਿਉ ਗ੍ਰਸਤ ਬਿਖਈ ਧੰਧੁ ॥

Ji▫o garsaṫ bikʰ▫ee ḋʰanḋʰ.

as the sinner is caught in his sins,

ਜਿਉ ਜੂਆਰ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥

Ji▫o joo▫aar bisan na jaa▫é.

as the gambler’s addiction does not leave him,

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਇ ॥੮॥

Har Naanak ih man laa▫é. ||8||

So is this mind of Nanak’s attached to the Lord. ||8||

ਕੁਰੰਕ ਨਾਦੈ ਨੇਹੁ ॥

Kurank naaḋæ néhu.

As the deer loves the sound of the bell,

ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕੁ ਚਾਹਤ ਮੇਹੁ ॥

Chaaṫrik chaahaṫ méhu.

and as the song-bird longs for the rain,

ਜਨ ਜੀਵਨਾ ਸਤਸੰਗਿ ॥

Jan jeevnaa saṫsang.

the Lord’s humble servant lives in the Society of the Saints,

ਗੋਬਿਦੁ ਭਜਨਾ ਰੰਗਿ ॥

Gobiḋ bʰajnaa rang.

lovingly meditating and vibrating upon the Lord of the Universe.

ਰਸਨਾ ਬਖਾਨੈ ਨਾਮੁ ॥

Rasnaa bakʰaanæ naam.

My tongue chants the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਨਾਨਕ ਦਰਸਨ ਦਾਨੁ ॥੯॥

Naanak ḋarsan ḋaan. ||9||

Please bless Nanak with the gift of the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan. ||9||

ਗੁਨ ਗਾਇ ਸੁਨਿ ਲਿਖਿ ਦੇਇ ॥

Gun gaa▫é sun likʰ ḋé▫é.

One who sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and hears them, and writes them,

ਸੋ ਸਰਬ ਫਲ ਹਰਿ ਲੇਇ ॥

So sarab fal har lé▫é.

receives all fruits and rewards from the Lord.

ਕੁਲ ਸਮੂਹ ਕਰਤ ਉਧਾਰੁ ॥

Kul samooh karaṫ uḋʰaar.

He saves all his ancestors and generations,

ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਉਤਰਸਿ ਪਾਰਿ ॥

Sansaar uṫras paar.

and crosses over the world-ocean.

ਹਰਿ ਚਰਨ ਬੋਹਿਥ ਤਾਹਿ ॥

Har charan bohiṫʰ ṫaahi.

The Lord’s Feet are the boat to carry him across.

ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਹਿ ॥

Mil saaḋʰsang jas gaahi.

Joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, he sings the Praises of the Lord.

ਹਰਿ ਪੈਜ ਰਖੈ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ॥

Har pæj rakʰæ muraar.

The Lord protects his honor.

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਨਿ ਦੁਆਰਿ ॥੧੦॥੨॥

Har Naanak saran ḋu▫aar. ||10||2||

Nanak seeks the Sanctuary of the Lord’s door. ||10||2||

ਬਿਲਾਵਲੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ਥਿਤੀ ਘਰੁ ੧੦ ਜਤਿ

Bilaaval mėhlaa 1 ṫʰiṫee gʰar 10 jaṫ

Bilaaval, First Mehl, T’hitee ~ The Lunar Days, Tenth House, To The Drum-Beat Jat:

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

Ik▫oaⁿkaar saṫgur parsaaḋ.

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਏਕਮ ਏਕੰਕਾਰੁ ਨਿਰਾਲਾ ॥

Ékam ékankaar niraalaa.

The First Day: The One Universal Creator is unique,

ਅਮਰੁ ਅਜੋਨੀ ਜਾਤਿ ਨ ਜਾਲਾ ॥

Amar ajonee jaaṫ na jaalaa.

immortal, unborn, beyond social class or involvement.

ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਰੂਪੁ ਨ ਰੇਖਿਆ ॥

Agam agochar roop na rékʰ▫i▫aa.

He is inaccessible and unfathomable, with no form or feature.

ਖੋਜਤ ਖੋਜਤ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਦੇਖਿਆ ॥

Kʰojaṫ kʰojaṫ gʰat gʰat ḋékʰi▫aa.

Searching, searching, I have seen Him in each and every heart.
